This is a project-level account from RoadVision AI's road survey programme for NHAI, covering the rehabilitation and up-gradation of the existing 2-lane road to 4-lane standard on the Koida – Rajamunda section of NH-215 (New NH-520), from km 206.200 to km 259.362, in the State of Odisha, under NHDP-III on EPC mode. It sets out what the survey of 26 October 2026 found, and why an upgrade in progress is exactly where an independent condition record earns its keep.
The Koida – Rajamunda section of NH-215, re-designated New NH-520, lies in the Sundargarh district of Odisha, running from km 206.200 to km 259.362, a length of about 53 km. The project is the rehabilitation and up-gradation of the existing 2-lane road to 4-lane standard, under NHDP-III on EPC mode.
In the survey programme the road is tracked under project code N/09059/01001/OR, as the single road in Weekly-Cycle-2, with scheduled survey days of Monday and Tuesday. The report below covers Monday 26 October 2026. Because every finding is tied to a chainage, the road can be read stretch by stretch rather than as a single average.
As publicly described, the work is the rehabilitation and up-gradation of an existing 2-lane road to four-lane standard, executed in EPC mode, in which the contractor engineers, procures and constructs, with NHAI as the implementing agency. An upgrade changes the road in stages, and the older pavement, the new works and the shoulders can all be in different states on the same day. That makes it hard to tell, from a desk or an occasional visit, whether the road is holding up where it carries traffic. A consistent, chainage-tied record answers that: it shows what is wrong, how urgent it is, and whether it has been put right by the next survey.
Every finding sits on a live GIS map, with each inspection point opening to its exact location, the defect flagged, and the frame behind it in both original and AI-annotated form. Figure 1 shows the route on the map around Joda and Koida for the survey of 26 October 2026, with an inspection point captured in the early afternoon, at about 2 pm, flagging faded and damaged kerb, cracking and faded pavement marking in a single frame, on a curve beside a retaining wall. A frame like this is a reminder that the survey records conditions as road users meet them, kerb to kerb.

The survey of 26 October 2026 (Weekly-Cycle-2) logged 187 findings in the roadway-surface view across nine defect types. Alligator cracking accounts for 53 (28.3%), rutting for 37 (19.8%), potholes for 35 (18.7%), cracking for 26 (13.9%), shoulder vegetation growth for 23 (12.3%) and water stagnation for 8 (4.3%), with shoulder edge drop, unevenness and rain cuts making up the remaining 5 (2.7%). Pavement distress, meaning cracking, alligator cracking, rutting and potholes, accounts for 151 findings (80.7%). By severity, 40 are High (21.4%), 89 Medium (47.6%) and 58 Low (31.0%).

Each survey gives the responsible Regional Office and PIU a defect ID, chainage and survey reference for every finding, independent of the agency doing the work. A later survey of the same chainage then shows whether the finding has been closed out, so that verification does not rest on the contractor's own account.
RoadVision AI is committed to continuous AI pavement maintenence along NH-215 (New NH-520) from Koida to Rajamunda, giving NHAI a consistent, chainage-level record of a road being raised to four-lane standard. Keeping that record current, survey after survey, is how an upgrade can be shown to be holding up.
